A sampling plan and spatial distribution for site-specific control of Sphenophorus levis in sugarcane Agronomy
Pavlu, Franz Arthur; Molin, José Paulo.
Sphenophorus levis has become a major pest of sugarcane plantations in Brazil, causing significant losses in productivity. Few studies have been conducted on the spatial distribution of this pest in the field, which is essential for the development of sampling plans. We aimed to characterize the spatial distribution of S. levis in sugarcane, defining a reliable, practical and feasible sampling plan, as well as generating application maps for production areas, allowing for comparison of the consumption of inputs in a conventional system with site-specific application. The study was conducted in areas around Piracicaba, Brazil. First, we conducted sampling to evaluate the best sampling density to characterize the spatial dependence. The results showed that...

Energy performance of sugarcane potential ethanol production under different management systems CIGR Journal
Wei, Marcelo Chan Fu; Romanelli, Thiago Libório; Molin, José Paulo.
Crop rotation with leguminous species in sugarcane cultivation is increasing in the southeastern regions of Brazil. Studies on sugarcane ethanol production rely basically at the economic and sustainable points of view overlooking the energy analysis. This study aimed to evaluate the sugarcane ethanol yield under no-tillage and conventional systems with different green manure treatments using a published dataset at the energy point of view. Analysis of energy efficiency was carried out using the indicators: energy balance (EB), energy return over investment (EROI) and Energy Intensity (EI). Energy balance ranged from 129.78 GJ ha-1 to 216.92 GJ ha-1, with no-tillage system presenting the highest values of EB. EROI presented the highest values (334.19,...

Soil penetration resistance mapping quality: effect of the number of subsamples Agronomy
Pias, Osmar Henrique de Castro; Cherubin, Maurício Roberto; Basso, Claudir José; Santi, Antônio Luis; Molin, José Paulo; Bayer, Cimélio.
There is no consensus in the literature regarding how many subsamples are needed to perform accurate on-farm soil penetration resistance (SPR) mapping. Therefore, the objective of this study was to define the number of subsamples per sampling point needed to quantify the SPR. The experiment was performed in a 4.7 ha area and employed a 50 × 50 m grid system (18 sampling points). The SPR was evaluated using a digital penetrometer in two different years with 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 9, 12, and 15 subsamples per sampling point. The SPR maps produced with increasing numbers of subsamples were compared to the reference maps (15 subsamples) using the relative deviation coefficient and Pearson´s linear correlation. A reduction in the number of subsamples promoted an...
